There are a couple of germination methods you can use after the double 24-hour soak. Option 1 – Get 125° hot water to pour on the seeds. Soak for 24 hours then drain the seeds then repeat another 24hr soak and drain. Put the seeds in a Ziploc bag (poke a few holes underneath zipper for air circulation) in your crisper pan away from any fruits or vegetables. Xylene gases will keep the seeds from germinating. You can put a potting media in the bag if desired. Keep seeds moist but not soaking wet. Open the bag once a week and fluff seeds (just turn bag over a few times to allow some airflow). If they are too wet, they will start to mold. You may need to leave them open for a day or spray them with fungicide. They should start sprouting in about 60 days. After they start sprouting, you can plant them outdoors. Option 2 – After the 2 soak and drain, you can winter sow them directly outdoors. Be sure to protect the seeds as squirrels and chipmunks can dig them up. They will start germinating in about 60-90 days. You want to time them germinating after your last frost date. If you get a late frost, you may need to protect them by bringing them indoors.
